CAREER GROWTH STORY: Kyle

Bringing His Skills from the Jobsite to Our Aisles: Meet Kyle

Before he ever wore an orange apron, Kyle spent years walking into The Home Depot as a contractor.

As the owner of a small HVAC business, he relied on our products and customer service to keep his projects on track. So, when it came time for a career change, Home Depot felt like a natural next step. “As a former contractor, I’d spent years on the other side of the counter,” Kyle shares. “I knew the store layout, I knew the products, and I knew the language Pros use.”

Kyle brings that firsthand experience to his store as a Pro Experience Manager. He works alongside his team to support our Pro customers and help their businesses succeed. Having built a business himself, he understands what it means to have a trusted partner who understands the work.

Why Do Skilled Trades Professionals Choose to Work at Home Depot?

For Kyle, joining Home Depot wasn’t about leaving the trades behind. It was an opportunity to apply the skills, knowledge, and experience he built as a contractor in a new way.

“When I moved from Arizona to Washington, I had some challenges transferring my HVAC license,” Kyle shares. “I saw this as the perfect opportunity to pivot my career, and Home Depot was the obvious choice.” That trades background helps him build relationships with Pro customers, because he’s lived their day-to-day.

What Does a Pro Experience Manager Do at The Home Depot?

“My role as a Pro Experience Manager revolves entirely around supporting our Pro customers and empowering our Pro team,” Kyle says.

As a Pro Experience Manager, Kyle is responsible for:

    • Delivering an excellent experience for Pro customers through fast, accurate service
    • Leading the Pro Customer Service/Sales team to keep products stocked, manage customer flow, and ensure safe, on-time deliveries
    • Driving sales, supporting Pro Xtra growth, and monitoring performance metrics

Kyle believes in hands-on leadership. “I don’t lead from a desk,” he shares. “I’m in the aisles with my team every day, making sure they have the support and resources they need to deliver the best experience for the Pros.”

This approach helps his team build relationships that earn their customers’ trust. “I want Pros to feel like our team is an extension of their business,” Kyle says. “Our capabilities are tools they can depend on to save time, protect their margins, and scale their operations.”

How Does Our Pro Customer Service/Sales Team Work Together?

While serving Pro customers is the priority, Kyle knows great customer service starts with great teamwork. Building strong relationships, with Pros and his associates, is one of the most rewarding parts of his role.

“My favorite part of the job is leading a driven Pro Customer Service/Sales team that delivers results we can be proud of,” Kyle says. He’s quick to recognize the associates who create that experience every day. One who stands out is Jim, a Pro Paint Specialist.

“Having a professional background himself, Jim drives the Pro experience in our store every single day,” Kyle says. “What inspires me most is his genuine passion for the paint business and his dedication to our contractors.”

Associates like Jim play a critical role in building the trust that keeps Pro customers coming back.

Why Home Depot?

While his trades background brought Kyle here, it’s the culture that has kept him.

“The company’s culture, values, and avenues for career growth are the reasons why Home Depot,” Kyle shares. He’s found mentors across the organization that have helped him learn, grow, and pursue new opportunities. These mentorships shape how he takes care of his own team.

“It completely comes down to the people,” Kyle says. “I love coming to work and knowing I can make an impact on my team’s growth and development.”

How Has Kyle Grown His Career?

Kyle started as a Customer Service/Sales Associate, working in the Lumber department. He credits his growth to working hard and keeping his goals in mind by making intentional career moves.

“I show up every day and give my maximum effort, regardless of the challenge,” he says. “And when an opportunity presents itself, I take full advantage of it.”
