CAREER GROWTH STORY: Solange

How an Outside Sales Representative, Like Solange, Supports Pro Customers

At a new 42-unit multifamily development, the ground is still being graded and the foundation has yet to be poured. But Solange, an Outside Sales Representative (OSR) , is already on the job. Before construction crews arrive, she’s been helping her Pro customer secure the lumber, doors, and windows needed for the project. Ensuring that when the crew is ready to build, the materials will be ready, too.

From start to finish, no matter how large or small, it’s my job to see my Pro Customers through the entire lifecycle of their projects.
– Solange

Whether she’s reviewing building materials lists, solving unexpected jobsite challenges, or tracking down products needed before a final walkthrough, she helps keep projects moving forward.

Our Outside Sales Representative (OSRs) work directly with Pro customers to build relationships, drive sales, and support projects of all sizes. While Solange is currently helping bring a 42-unit multifamily development to life, no two days look exactly the same. Her customers work across single-family construction, multifamily construction, and property management projects, each with their own goals, timelines, and challenges.

This is a role that takes Solange out from behind the desk and onto the road. She travels between jobsites to support her Pros. “I serve as a consultant,” she shares. “I’m someone they can rely on to help secure materials, provide solutions to challenges, and make recommendations for their projects.”

How Does Solange Support Her Pro Customers?

Whether a project is still in the blueprints or nearing a final walkthrough, Solange’s goal stays the same. “I listen closely to each customer’s needs, then connect them with the products, services, and solutions that move their business forward,” Solange shares.

While selling is an important part of the job, the work is about more than any single order. “My focus goes beyond just selling materials,” she explains. “I aim to be a trusted partner. I really enjoy helping them grow their businesses.”

How Has Solange Grown Her Career?

Solange brings nearly three decades of experience to the jobsite. “Twenty-eight years ago, I joined The Home Depot as a Cashier,” she says. “The rest is history.”

Solange developed her skillset before stepping into outside sales. Her experience working at our registers, the Pro Desk, and in the aisles taught her how to deliver excellent customer service while living our values. This foundation shows up every day in how she supports her Pros.
